GMS CHUMOUKEDIMA REQUISITIONED AS POLLING STATION FOR WARD NO. 11 BY-ELECTIONadmin June 09 2026

The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Chumoukedima, has requisitioned the Class-V room of Government Middle School (GMS), Chumoukedima, for use as a polling station in connection with the forthcoming by-election to Ward No. 11 of the Chümoukedima Town Council.
According to an order issued, the requisition was made following a communication from the State Election Commission, Nagaland, regarding the conduct of the by-election scheduled to be held on June 16, 2026.
The order stated that the Class-V room of GMS Chumoukedima will be utilized as a polling station and for all election-related activities on the day of polling.
The Head Teacher of Government Middle School, Chumoukedima, has been directed to make the room available and extend all necessary cooperation to ensure the smooth conduct of the election process.

Dimapur Police arrested a third accused person in connection with Women Police Station Case No. 003/26 registered under Sections 64(2) (7)(M), 65(1), 71 and 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
According to a press note issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, the accused, identified as Akangkokba Ao (68), son of Late Imsunukshi, a resident of Unger village under Changtongya Police Station, Mokokchung, and presently residing at Residency Colony, Dimapur, was arrested by Dimapur Police on June 7, 2026.
The arrest was made as part of the ongoing investigation into the case, the press note stated.

The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Chumoukedima, has invited applications from eligible persons for appointment to one vacant post of Government Nominee Member in the Chumoukedima Town Council (CTC).
According to a notificaDn issued, the invitation has been made in pursuance of a communication from the Municipal Affairs Department, Nagaland, and in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 22(4) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023.
Interested and eligible candidates have been asked to submit their applications to the Deputy Commissioner's Office within the stipulated period. The last date for submission of applications is June 23, 2026.

PEREN DPDB MEETING BANS SINGLE USE PLASTIC ON PRIORITY

Peren District Planning & Development Board meeting was held at Deputy Commissioner’s Office conference Hall, Peren on 8th June 2026 under the Chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang, Planning & Transformation and National Highway. The meeting discussed to form Officers’ Club in the district in order to bring more officers of different departments closer to a common platform.
Discussing on the topic of the Ntangki National Park, the board urged the forest department to coordinate with Director of Ntangki National Park and DFO Peren to Properly function the Director’s office at Ntangki National Park at forest camp.
While the board was deliberating a total ban on single use plastic, the Deputy Chief Minister, T.R. Zeliang apprised the meeting that single use plastic dominates our economy due to their incredibly low production cost, and the board decided to ban single use plastics in the district because it severely affects the environment and creates health hazard. T.R. Zeliang stated that how single use of plastics affects the environment because it takes hundreds of years to decompose and the clog waterways kills wildlife and leach toxic microplastics into food and water which is harmful to our health. After a lengthy deliberation the house unanimously resolved to setup a committee headed by Deputy Commissioner as Convener, UDO as Member Secretary, EE PHED as Member, DRDA as Member, and CMO as Member.
Deputy Commissioner Peren, Hiazu Meru opined and entrusted Town Council and Ad-hoc Town Council under Peren district to educate the general public to minimize the use of single use plastics.
Earlier, the board reviewed the previous meeting minutes on adoption of Peren Government College and Hospitals in the district. Later, Hiazu Meru also introduced the Selco Foundation to the board, where the Selco Foundation highlights their activities under Peren district through PowerPoint presentation. In conclusion, Deputy Commissioner expressed his gratitude to the members for the Successful conduct of the day’s event.

The Deputy Commissioner, Phek, Rhosietho Nguori has issued traffic advisory, stating that in view of the hill excavation works at Ch. 101+060 to Ch. 101 + (in between Losatephe and Lanezho Village) under Package-V of Kohima- Jessami Road, as a precautionary measure for the safety of the general public. The DC informed that a vehicular movement for all type of vehicles along the aforementioned stretch is partially restricted for a period of 5 (five) days i.e. from 10- 06- 2026 with restrictions from 6:00 A.M to 6:00 PM.

The Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS has issued an order informing that a positive laboratory test report received from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services has confirmed an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) at Thizama Village under Kohima district.

In view of the outbreak, and considering that ASF is a highly contagious viral disease posing a serious threat to livestock, the district administration has notified control measures and containment zones with immediate effect.

Accordingly, an Infected Zone has been declared within a radius of 1 km from the infected premises at Thizama Village, while a Surveillance Zone has been declared within a radius of 10 km from the infected premises.

The order stated that there will be a total ban on the export, import and movement of live pigs and pork products within, into or out of the Infected and Surveillance Zones. All pork meat markets and butchery shops located within the designated zones shall remain closed until further orders.

Pig farmers have been directed to strictly restrict visitors, disinfect farm premises on a daily basis and immediately report any unusual illness or mortality among pigs to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. Any suspicious pig deaths should also be reported to the department without delay.

The order further directed that carcasses of infected or suspected animals must be disposed of through safe burial in accordance with official protocols. Dumping of carcasses in water bodies or open areas has been strictly prohibited.

The DC warned that any person violating the directives will be liable for legal action under the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009, and other relevant provisions of law.

The State Election Commission, Nagaland, has notified guidelines for identification of electors during the upcoming polls on 16th June 2026 in Ward 11 (Chaara) of Chumoukedima Town Council, Ward 8 (Tsumang ‘B’) of Wokha Town Council, and Ward 9 (Samba Ghoki) of Atoizu Town Council.

Electors must produce any one of the following documents for voting: Indian Passport; Driving Licence; Aadhaar Card; Service identity card issued by the Central/State Government, Public Sector Undertaking, Public Limited Companies; Bank/Post Office Passbook with photograph; PAN Card; Pension Document with photograph or Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate issued by the Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy Commissioner.

The Commission clarified that documents available only in the name of the head of the family shall be used for identification of other family members, provided their identity can be established. Minor discrepancies in name, parent/spouse name, sex, age or address in the electoral roll shall be ignored if the Presiding Officer is satisfied about the elector’s identity.

No elector will be allowed to cast his/her vote without producing any of the above documents as prescribed by the State Election Commission.

The State Election Commission (SEC), Nagaland, has issued instructions on admission of persons into polling stations for the municipal by-elections to be held on 16th June 2026 in Ward 11 (Chaara) under Chümoukedima Town Council, Ward 8 (Tsumang ‘B’) under Wokha Town Council, and Ward 9 (Samba Ghoki) under Atoizu Town Council.

Referring to Rule 48 of the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules, 2023, the Commission stated that only electors, polling officials, election officials on duty, persons authorized by the Commission with valid authority letters or entry passes, candidates and their election or polling agents, children in arms accompanying electors, companions of blind or infirm electors, and persons engaged by the Returning Officer or Presiding Officer under the rules may be admitted into polling stations.

It further informed that the Presiding Officer may appoint a woman polling official or another consenting woman elector to assist women voters. Assistance of the concerned Ward or Colony GB may also be taken for voter identification or other polling-related duties when required.

The SEC clarified that Ministers, MPs, State Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Advisors and MLAs are not covered under the category of “public servants on duty” and are therefore not permitted inside polling stations. Police Officers, whether in uniform or plain clothes, should also not enter polling stations except when called by the Presiding Officer for maintaining law and order. Security personnel accompanying candidates, agents or electors shall not be allowed entry.

Returning Officers have been directed to issue identity cards to contesting candidates bearing their photographs, while polling agents may be required to produce attested copies of their appointment letters as proof of identity.

For smooth conduct of polling, separate queues shall be maintained for male and female voters. Priority shall be given to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), senior citizens aged 75 years and above, blind and infirm voters, and women carrying infants. Necessary assistance may be provided to such voters in accordance with the rules.

The SEC further stated that media personnel may photograph voters queuing outside polling stations, subject to maintenance of peace and order. However, entry inside polling stations requires authorization from the State Election Commission. Photography of polling proceedings, access to voting compartments, and interviews with polling personnel inside polling stations are strictly prohibited to safeguard the secrecy of voting.
