Directorate of School Education has informed that the National Scholarship Portal for Pre- Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students in the State shall be open from 15^th October 2026 to 30^th November 2026. Hence, eligible students studying in class 9 & 10 in Government and Recognized Private School (Both Fresh & Renewal) have been directed to register in the Portal within the stipulated time. Eligible criteria and necessary information are available in the NPS official website https://scholarships.gov.in. Time line for registration, verification and completion is given as below.

DOYANG WILDLIFE DIVISION ISSUES ORDER BANNING TRADE AND HUNTING OF WILD ANIMALS AND BIRDSadmin October 13 2026

The Office of the Wildlife Warden, Doyang Wildlife Division, Wokha, under the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of Nagaland, has issued an order reiterating the ban on the trade and hunting of wild animals and birds under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

The order, dated 13th October 2026, stated that hunting of wild animals and birds within Nagaland's territorial jurisdiction is strictly prohibited, except in cases permitted under the provisions of the Act. The order particularly highlighted the protection of Amur Falcons, stating that hunting, trapping, killing or selling the migratory birds for food, possession or any other purpose constitutes a criminal offence. Violators may face imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine of ₹25,000, or both, under Sections 9 and 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

In compliance with government directives and in the interest of conserving wildlife, the order directs all concerned to strictly adhere to the ban on the trade and hunting of wild animals and birds. The directive applies to areas under the jurisdiction of the Doyang Wildlife Division, covering Wokha, Mokokchung and Zunheboto districts.

The order further cautioned that anyone found violating the directives would be liable for prosecution under the relevant provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The Wildlife Warden, Doyang Division, Jongponglemba, stated that appropriate legal action would be initiated against individuals or groups found violating the provisions of the Act.

The directive underscores the importance of protecting wildlife, particularly migratory species such as the Amur Falcon, and calls for public cooperation in conserving Nagaland's rich biodiversity.

The Research Institute of World’s Ancient Traditions, Cultures and Heritages (RIWATCH) and Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Nagaland, have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a comprehensive framework for academic cooperation, interdisciplinary research, and the safeguarding of Northeast India’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage.

The agreement was finalized and signed at the RIWATCH campus located in Khinjili, Roing, Arunachal Pradesh on 10th October 2026. The signing ceremony brought together key leadership and academic representatives from both institutions, featuring RIWATCH Executive Director Vijay Swami and Kohima Science College Principal Dr. Temjenwabang.

This strategic partnership aims to build robust institutional bridges between Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, focusing on several critical areas, including Joint Research & Interdisciplinary Studies to foster cooperative research projects exploring the region’s diverse histories, traditions, and contemporary academic needs; Language Documentation & Cultural Preservation which will involve combining resources to document, preserve, and promote indigenous languages and cultural traditions unique to Northeast India; Academic & Student Exchange to facilitate the exchange of academic expertise, resource sharing, and student opportunities to drive mutual learning and academic excellence; and Community Development aimed at advancing collaborative community-oriented programs centred on education and cultural sustainability.

Highlighting the broader vision of the collaboration, RIWATCH Executive Director, Vijay Swami noted that the partnership marks a vital step toward connecting Northeast India through unified research, emphasizing that institutional cooperation is essential for preserving the histories and languages of local communities. He also shared long-term aspirations to evolve RIWATCH into a university—provisionally envisioned as the University of World’s Ancient Traditions, Cultures and Heritages (UWATCH)—to expand its educational footprint.

Dr. Temjenwabang, Principal of Kohima Science College, praised RIWATCH’s pioneering contributions to language documentation and cultural preservation, describing the MoU as far more than a formal document. He stated that it lays a solid foundation for a lasting partnership rooted in shared knowledge, mutual respect, and a joint commitment to enriching traditional knowledge across the region.

The signing ceremony was graced by prominent representatives from both institutions. District administration lead by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pungro, Hotolu Sema, NCS, along with police personnel, President and representatives from Pungro Area Public Forum visited Zaonger Village, Pungro, Kiphire District on 12th October 2026, for comprehensive assessment into the damages caused by the recent tribal conflict and to facilitate documentation and safe collection of personal belongings of displaced persons.

The collected belongings were deposited at Pungro Police Station for safe custody, proper documentation and secure handling, and are directed to ensure that retrieved belongings remain protected till the packages are delivered. Cooperation from local representatives and CSO have been instrumental in facilitating coordination and maintaining communication among the stake holders.

The number of properties damaged across Zaonger Village at the time of the filing of this report are as follows.

a) Total number of houses vandalized: 21.

b) Total number of houses burnt: 19.

c) Total number of vehicles damaged/capsized:1 sumo, 1 pickup truck, 1 motorcycle.

d) Total number of vehicles burnt: 12 motorcycles, 3 sumos, 1 pickup truck, taking the toll of the number of vehicles burned or damaged to 19.

Security arrangements for civilians’ safety, damage assessment and assistance for displaced persons continues to remain priority. The security has been tightened around the village and the situation continues be closely monitored.

In a circular the Additional Deputy Commissioner Longleng, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, NCS, has informed that construction materials such as sand, stones, bricks, timber and other building materials are being dumped and stored along public roads, streets and footpaths within Longleng town, causing obstruction to the free movement of vehicles and pedestrians, besides affecting the cleanliness and appearance of the town.

Therefore, in the interest of public safety, cleanliness and smooth movement of traffic, all individuals, contractors and property owners concerned have been directed to remove all construction materials lying on public roads, streets, footpaths and other public spaces within Longleng town within two (2) days from the date of issuance of the order.

Failure to comply within the stipulated period shall result in the removal of such materials by the Longleng Town Council without any further notice. The cost of removal shall be recovered from the persons responsible, wherever permissible under the applicable law.

All concerned have been directed to strictly comply with this order.

Atoizu Town Council, led by Chairperson, Kitoli Naje, felicitated Atoizu Primary Health Centre (PHC) led by Dr Gihuka Chishi, the lone Medical Officer of Atoizu PHC, on 12th October 2026 for achieving National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification.

AAM-PHC Atoizu secured an overall score of 91.12 per cent in the external assessment conducted on July 10 and 11, 2026. The certification was communicated by the National Health Systems Resource Centre on October 5.

Meanwhile, grievances concerning the facility highlighted shortages of nursing personnel and Medical Officers, along with a vacant pharmacist’s position following the retirement of the previous incumbent.

It was reported that the PHC is operating with only two nurses and one Medical Officer, despite its 24-hour operational requirements. The staffing constraints highlight the importance of continued support to sustain quality healthcare delivery in Atoizu.

Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, under CVO Phek conducted a Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination under ASCAD 2024-25 at Khezhakeno, Phek district on 10th October 2026.

Team leader, Dr. Tshoketo Keyho, VAS and Dr Velilu Epao, VAS and field staffs of Veterinary Health Centre (VHC)-cum-Quarantine Check Post (QCP) Khezhakeno, vaccinated a good number of dogs and cats against rabies during the vaccination drive.

Medicines including mineral mixtures, anthelmintics and disinfectants were distributed to farmers during the camp.
