District Administration and Longleng Town Council observed Swachh Bharat Diwas and culmination of Swachhata Hi Seva on the theme "Cleanliness of Nature- Cleanliness of Culture" on 2nd October 2024, at DPDB hall, Longleng with Deputy Commissioner, Longleng W. Manpai Phom as the special guest.

DC, in his address said Mahatma Gandhi's vision was to bring India its independence but on the contrary one of his prime principles was focusing on sanitation and cleanliness to make India a developed nation focusing not only in infrastructural development but all round, the way we live our daily lives and that is how Swachh Bharat came into the foe in 2014.

Speaking on global issues like Global warming the main cause being plastic, the DC said disposal of waste should be maintained properly which is effecting the environment drastically. Differentiating the types of waste is very important and should be maintain separately, he said with the ever increasing population at least one vision or plan should be kept intact and work as a team constantly to fulfil the goal. Sanitation is not only the concerning work of the municipal corporation but the general participation of the public and personal responsibility of every individual, he said.

Asserting that the town council will provide broad overview and guidelines but the duty lies with general public, the he said without the response from respective colony leaders or ward representatives there will be no progress. Therefore, he informed the gathering tp organised a collective plan where various ward should come up with the requirements and inputs/suggestions and work hand in hand together accordingly.

He also gave away the prizes to the awardees of series activities conducted throughout the campaign such as; Essay competition, Slogan competition, Painting competition, Best waste to Art and Best cleanliness target unit (CTU).

MIS, Longleng Town Council, Isaac P. Pongshi Keikung highlighted on issues and solutions for effective sanitation services through Power Point presentation.

SDO (C) Longleng, Meyazungba Jamir proposed the welcome address and EAC, Imkongnukla Ao purpose the vote of thanks. The programme was chaired by EAC, Tsalimse Sangtam.

Representative from wards, Churches, NGOs and students from different Schools attended the culmination programme.
