The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with Vekusheyi Rhakho, NCS Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chiephobozou as the Special Guest on 15th August 2026 at Local Ground, Chiephobozou, Kohima.

The Special guest unfurled the National flag and took the Rashtriya salute and delivered the Independence Day speech.

Other major highlights of the programme included, march past by the Parade contingents consisting of Ex-Servicemen, Chiechama and 10th IRB Zhadima led by Parade Commander, ABI, Thepusohu Yoho.

The National Flag was hoisted across all government Offices and educational institutions to mark the occasion. The celebration concluded with the Independence Day Running Trophy Volleyball match, participated by Chiechama Youth Organization team, Chiephobozou Youth Organization Team and Chiephobozou Sporting Club. The prizes for the tournament were sponsored by Neizolie Rüpreo Chiechama Village Council Chairman and Vingutuo Rutsa Nerhema Village Council Chairman. It was organised by the Welfare Union Chiephobozou.

The event was compered by Akumtola Imchen, Sr. Lecturer and Mhaphruovinuo Yhome, Lecturer from DIET Chiechama. Government officials, civil society members, students, and uniformed personnel participated in large numbers to mark the occasion.

The celebration concluded with the ceremonial Beating of Retreat in the evening.
