The District Administration, Chmoukedima, organised the 80th Independence Day celebration on 15th August 2026 at Sammagooting Stadium, DC’s Office Complex, Chumoukedima.
Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Village Guards, C. L. John, graced the occasion as the special guest. The programme commenced with the fall-in of parade contingents, followed by the National Song, after which the National Flag was hoisted with Rashtriya Salute and the National Anthem was sung. Minister C.L John inspected the parade and delivered his Independence Day address.
District Commendation Awards were presented to Kevineinuo Rio, District Programme Officer, Social Welfare Department, Chumoukedima, Hotolu G. Sumi, Junior Engineer, Public Health Engineering Department, Rural Division and Weprepeu Losou, Computer Operator, DCP Office, Chumoukedima in recognition of their distinguished services.
The celebration featured a march past by the participating contingents, led by Parade Commander, DYSP Virielhouilie Miario. The contingents comprised of 1st NAP Platoon, 22nd Assam Rifles, Ex-Servicemen, Patkai Army Wing, Patkai Air Wing, Government Higher Secondary School, Chumoukedima, Mount Mary College, St. Joseph University and Pipe Band, 22nd Assam Rifles, followed by cultural performances by the Angami, Sumi, Ao and Sangtam Cultural Troupes. A PT drill was also presented by Blue Star Higher Secondary School, Singrijan.
As part of the programme, the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Chümoukedima, released the Strategic Research and Extension Plan (SREP) 2026, Compendium of Activities 2025-26 and Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITK) in Agriculture. The district-level ATMA Farmers Award 2026 was also presented to five progressive farmers from Chümoukedima, Dhansiripar and Medziphema blocks in recognition of their contribution to farming and allied activities.
The Office of the District Project Officer, Department of Land Resources, also felicitated the dignitaries with Nagaland Coffee during the celebration.
Later, Minister, C.L John inaugurated the exhibition stalls set up by various departments, including the Department of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture, Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission, Department of Sericulture, and Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Sciences, Department of Fisheries, DRDA, Election & DHEW.
The programme was attended by Government officials, students, civil society organisations and members of the public.
