Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Rothihu Tetso briefed media persons on overall situation in Dimapur for the last three months at his office chamber on 25th September 2021.

Addressing the gathering commissioner said that the overall law and order situation in Dimapur for the last four months has been fairly peaceful. He said that from June 2021 to 23rd September 2021 a total of 65 cases have been registered in connection to which 94 persons were arrested during which 31 arms, 313 ammunitions, cash rupees 1,28,790 (suspected extortion money), 5 grenades, 16 detonators, 2 meters of cordtex wire, 5 vehicles and 20 others were seized. While giving Dimapur district statistics on police-public ratio, Tetso informed that according to 2011 census the population in Dimapur has 3,78,811 with population density is 410 per sq. km where police public ratio comes to 1:883 and police - sq/km ratio comes to 1:2.1 sq. kms

On crime report, out of 1474 total cases registered in Nagaland in 2020, 827 total cases were registered in Dimapur with a percentage of 58.14% and as on 31st August 2021, out of 941 total cases registered in Nagaland in 2021, 529 total cases were registered in Dimapur in 2021. A total of 219 cases have been registered in connection to which 158 persons were arrested on crimes under IPC and 54 cases registered and 62 arrested on crimes under special and local law with effect from 1st June to 2021 to 23rd September 2021, he reported. 

Highlighting achievement report on NLTP Act/ D.C and NTPS Act a total of 26 cases were registered for which 34 persons were arrested. 

Highlighting District Action Plan to contain rampant cases of extortion, illegal tax collection, kidnapping, abduction for ransom and other illegal and anti-social activities within Dimapur District, Commissioner said that extortion and illegal taxation continues to be a challenge for Dimapur Police, given the fact that in accounts for 13% of the total number of criminal cases registered since 1-1-2020. The highest being theft cases which accounts to 36% of the total number of criminal cases registered, mostly of two - wheeler theft cases, he said and further stated that with the indeterminate, superfluous and vague cease fire ground rules policing in the district is confronted with an unnatural front nonetheless the District Action Plan is being formulated with realistic objectives of achieving a substantial reduction in extortion and illegal taxation with optimum utilisation of limited resources at hand.

On escort of transport trucks which is also one of the actions being implemented, Tetso appealed transporters including those trucks to other states to avail the escort given at a specific timing. He also appealed to people to adhere to all safety precautions especially two - wheelers and sought support incorporation also sections of the people to fight against anti social activities.
