The Deputy Commissioner Choumkedima, Polan John inaugurated 20 bamboo market stalls at Kukidolong, New Medziphema (Jharnapani) and Medziphema on September 25, 2026. This initiative was undertaken by the Medziphema Administration, Chumoukedima with the support of IDBI Bank. The program commenced with a prayer offered by Pastor Thefu Krodo, Jharnapani.
In his inaugural address, DC Chumoukedima, Polan John appreciated the support extended by IDBI Bank towards the initiative, and stretched the collaboration between District Administration and Financial Institution and local communities. He encouraged the participants to make good use of the market stalls to showcase their locally produced goods and strengthen their livelihood.
He assured that the District Administration will continue to facilitate initiatives that creates opportunities for the people and promote inclusive economic growth. The DC also informed that the solar panels would be installed at the market side to provide a sustainable source of power. He therefore, requested the village councils to ensure proper care, maintenance and upkeep of the solar panels so that the facilities could be utilised effectively for their benefits for the vendors and the community.
In his opening speech, ADC Medziphema, P. James Swu highlighted that the initiative of setting up a bamboo market stall is aimed at providing a platform for local farmers, producers, and entrepreneurs and vendors to showcase and sell their products.
He said the establishment of bamboo market stalls has been a long-cherished dream of him and the former chairman Albert Ezung, NBDA which now becomes a reality. He expressed satisfaction that the initiative, which has been envisioned since his joining as ADC Medziphema has finally materialised, providing a dedicated platform for promoting bamboo products and supporting local artisans and entrepreneurs.
IDBI Assistant General Manager, Zubenthung Jami expressed gratitude to the District Administration for choosing IDBI Bank as a partner for this initiative. He appreciated the administration for providing the opportunities to collaborate in creating the facilities and expressed hope that the partnership could continue in the future through such more initiative. He wished the project a grand success and assured the bank to continue to support towards the development of the local community.
Following the inauguration, the DC Chumoukedima, Polan John, ADC, Medziphema, P. James Swu, EAC Medziphema, Vithwel Kweho, RO, Thejavizo Nakhro and bank officials visited various agricultural and allied activities in the area including piggery, poultry, rabbit and cattle farms.
