Under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, district Kisan Mela celebration was held on 26th April 2022 at Tiyi hall, Wokha, with Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, Governing Board, ATMA, Wokha, Orenthung Lotha as the special guest.
Addressing during the function, the DC said, 58% of Indian population are farmers, and almost 70% to 80% of the Nagaland’s population are farmers and although there are many important sectors where Government can work on. Knowing and realizing the importance of farmers the Government is organising such events to let the farmers know that government if giving much importance to farmers because wherever we eat, consume comes from the produce through the hard work of the farmers.
Deputy Commissioner on behalf of the farmers expressed gratitude to the government and department for organising such events to sensitize and train the farmers, which he opined that such kind of trainings will help farmers boost their economy.
Stating, Wokha is blessed with rich fertile land we do not need chemicals to grow crops, and urged farmers to take up natural and the age old traditional way of farming, using chemicals and fertilizers. The DC also said, under KVK numerous training not only in farming but even animal rearing trainings are imparted and urged the people to take advantage of the services.
Soil and Water Conservation Officer, Wokha Lidemo informed that the department has started the soil testing in a phase manner, where one (1) village is selected from each of the 7 (Seven) Blocks under Wokha district during the first phase and works are almost on the verge of completion after which Soil Health Card (SHC) will be issued to all the farmers. He further informed that in the second phase five villages will be selected from every block to expedite the work and urged all villagers to extend support during this exercise.
In the first and second session PPT of Various schemes and programmes by Agri & Allied departments and Farmers Scientist interaction was done followed by departmental booths visitation. Short speeches were also delivered by District Agriculture Officer, R,Santsu Kithan and Sr.Scientist & Head I/C KVK-Wokha.
District Horticulture Officer, Wokha Medemshiba chaired the function while vote of thanks was proposed by DPD, ATMA.
