The East Zone Inter Sainik Schools Sports & Cultural Meet 2022 is being organized at Sainik School Punglwa, Nagaland from 14th to 18th June 2022. Six Sainik Schools participating in the competition are Sainik School Purulia- West Bengal, Goalpara - Assam, Imphal - Manipur, Punglwa - Nagaland, Chhingchip - Mizoram and Sainik School East Siang - Arunachal Pradesh.
The opening ceremony of the championship was graced by Major General R S Guraya, VSM Chief of Staff HQ 3 Corps, Chairman LBA as the Chief Guest. Guest of Honour was Hardip Kaur Guraya. They were received by Gp Cpt R K Yadev, Principal SSPN. Several dignitaries including LBA members, Members of Old Boys Association of Sainik Schools attended the meet.
On his arrival, he inaugurated the Out Door Sports Stadium named after Dr T Ao, the renowned football player from Nagaland. Dr T Ao was the captain of Indian football team at the 1948 London Olympics - India’s first-ever international match as an independent nation.
Earlier, opening address was delivered by Principal SSPN. A painting on Naga Warrior painted by Art Master Punglwa, Dailee Mao was also presented to the Chief Guest. All participating teams presented a colorful and unique cultural folk dance of their respective states which was the main attraction of the day besides March Past by participating teams and Basketball exhibition match. The opening ceremony also included flag hoisting and lighting of flame.
The Chief Guest in his address exhorted the Cadets to find passion in sports so as to bring more laurels to the country. He apprised the young cadets from different Sainik Schools that education today has undergone rapid changes and it can no longer be confined to just within the four walls of a classroom. In his speech he also added, academic excellence along with sports, co-curricular and extra -curricular activities complements the process of education in order to become an effective leader and a responsible citizen.
