The Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Phek conducted a training programme on value added fish products for Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the Women Empowerment (Gender Budgeting) initiative for 2026–27.
The programme was held at Phek Town on October 14, 2026, with around 20 women participants. The training aimed to equip women with practical skills in fish processing and value addition, enabling them to develop income generating activities using locally available resources with minimal investment and without specialised machinery.
District Fisheries Officer Phek, Esther Angami and team provided hands on training in the preparation of various fish-based products, including fish pickle, fish fingers, fish balls, fish cutlets and fish soup.
Highlighting the growing demand for ready to eat and easy to cook food products, DFO Esther Angami encouraged the participants to include value added fish products in their existing product lines. She noted that such initiatives could help women diversify their offerings, access new markets and increase their earnings.
The programme sought to promote women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship and livelihood development through small scale enterprises in the fisheries sector.
A similar training programme was also conducted for SHGs members at Meluri town on October 15, 2026.
