Advisor for School Education, Government of Nagaland, K.T. Sukhalu inaugurated the up-gradation of Government High School to Government Higher Secondary School Sungro, under Wokha district on 12th February 2022.

Addressing the inaugural function, the Advisor said the up-gradation of school is to ensure that our young generation is not deprived of education. K.T. Sukhalu said that Sungro High School has been upgraded based on its performance and fulfilling the criteria of good enrolments and good results, he also thanked the teachers and faculty members for their dedication and above all the area people for their unflinching support despite facing many challenges and difficulties in its initial stage.

While speaking on down gradation of some schools in the State, the Advisor said that it is heartbreaking but had to be done when school enrolment is so bad and their results are very poor and added that the government desire to ensure that we cannot deprive our young generation of quality education. Achieving academic excellence is not the responsibility of the department alone but it is equally important for the community to extend full cooperation to the department, he urged the people to take a keen interest to ensure that the school is run properly involving all stakeholders of the state. Sukhalu urged Sungro community to continue to give support to ensure that the upgraded school is run properly for a result-oriented institution.

While conveying best wishes to the people of Sungro range on behalf of the State Chief Minister, he said the newly upgraded GHSS Sungro will get its building completed by 2022 "the community need to shoulder higher responsibility and nurture the school as their own as the department is providing the best-trained teachers to mould the young students with the vision that they will become an asset for the society and responsible citizens," added Sukhalu.

Guest of Honour, Advisor for Horticulture & Border Affairs, MhathungYanthan, while extending greetings, appreciated the chief minister of Nagaland for listening to the voice of the people and in delivering the much-awaited dream of Sungro Range people to have a Government Higher Secondary School for its remarkable achievement of 61 glorious years of existence with constantly good number of student’s enrolment and decent exam pass percentage.

Yanthan also stated that the day is a momentous occasion for the people of Sungro range and a proud moment for 39 Sanis Assembly Constituency to have its first Higher Secondary school. He also highlighted the significance of the area under his constituency stating that despite having a large potential to boost the economy, he lamented that his constituency remains under-developed, he urged the people to extend more support to bring the dreams and aspirations of many people into reality.

He further urged upon the village Education Committee, village councils and range people to support the school to bring about notable results and produce responsible citizens.

Director, School Education Nagaland, Wonthungo Tsopoe in his short speech said that 16 schools have been upgraded by the State Government in 2021 under the close observation and interest of the State Chief Minister of Nagaland with a vision to provide quality education to the young generation. He further said through the up-gradation of Sungro GHS to GHSS would now become a nerve centre of learning for the locality.

Advisor, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire; Advisor, Imnatiba; Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Orenthung Lotha delivered short speeches. The inauguration function was attended by Advisor, Kazheto Kinimi; Advisor Medo Yhokha and a host of dignitaries. Earlier dedication prayer for the foundation stone was offered by Rev. O. Yibomo Ngullie, Pastor Okotso Baptist Church.
