In observance of Wokha District Girl Child Day, Wokha District Administration and DLCW-MSK under the BBBP Banner organized a baby show cum distribution of baby kit to all the new born girl child born between April 2021 and January 2022 at DC’s Conference Hall, Wokha Town on 10th February 2022.
Speaking on the occasion, SDO (Civil), Selemla S Sangtam, reminded the mothers present that being a mother is one of the most important role a women can ever play. She said that a mother is the main role model for a young child and they subconsciously takes in how a mother carries herself, behave and think about herself. She appealed to all the mothers to consider girl child as an asset and give equal opportunities without any gender bias as girls can become a responsible and productive members of the society. Sangtam further stated that even in the digital world, researchers have found that there is a wide gender gap. The percentage of male is higher than women among global internet users and it shows that discrimination still exist even in digital world, she stated.
Baby show competition to promote institutional delivery and exclusive breast feeding was the main focus of the programme. The show was judged by Dr. Ruutuou Sorhie, Paediatrician, Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital and Dr. Wonchibeni T Murry, Medical Officer, Nyiro PHC. Mharhoni Kikon of Akuk was the adjudged the winner of the show and Mhachoni Ngullie came in second. Mharhoni Ezung and Nzani Ovung won the third position and Grace N Kikon won the consolation prize.
Baby kit consisting of baby care collection and baby blanket was distributed to all the mothers present at the programme.
