Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav visited Tuensang District on 8th October 2026 and held an interactive session with the Department Officials and Civil Societies from the District.
On his visit to the District, the Governor extended a heartfelt gratitude to the people of Tuensang for their hospitality and affection and said it is an opportunity for him to see the district firsthand, interact with the people and understand the aspirations, concern and expectations.
The Governor highlighted that Tuensang occupies a very important place in the history of Nagaland. Before the foundation of the State in 1963, it formed part of the Nagaland Hills Tuensang Area and played an important role in the political and administrative evolution of the State of Nagaland. As one of the early administrative centres of Eastern Nagas, Tuensang has also been an important meeting point of Community, Cultural and traditions. It's rich heritage and the tradition of the people are an integral part of the cultural identity of Nagaland. People of Tuensang have demonstrated remarkable courage, resilience, hardwork and community spirit despite geographical and infrastructural challenges, he added.
Referring to the historical agreement signed in New Delhi on 5th February 2026 between Eastern Nagaland People' Organisation (ENPO), The Government of India and Government of Nagaland concerning the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority, the Governor described it as important milestone for Eastern Nagaland and said the agreement reflects the importance of dialogue, mutual understanding and democratic engagement in addressing the aspirations and developmental needs of the people. He sincerely hoped that the Historical development will open new avenues for inclusive development, stronger institutions, better infrastructure and greater opportunities for the people of Eastern Nagaland and most importantly will usher a new era of peace, cooperation and prosperity while preserving the unity and integrity of Nagaland.
Emphasising his visit to the district was important, he said governance becomes more meaningful when Constitutional Institutions remain connected with the people at the grassroots level. He highlighted that Tuensang has immense potential in Agriculture, Horticulture, Handloom, Handicrafts, Tourism, Education and Entrepreneurship, and with better connectivity, infrastructure, technology and opportunities for young people, the district can become an important contributor to the economic growth of Nagaland.
Asserting that youths must be at the centre of this development as they possess talent, energy and creativity, he said what they need are opportunities, skill, access to technology and an environment in which they can pursue their aspirations. He therefore encouraged the young people of Tuensang to believe in their abilities acquired new skills and become partners in the development of their communities. The Governor also reminded that development must go hand in hand with the preservation of cultural heritage, tradition, language, custom, music and community institutions are valuable assets and modernisation should strength our identity.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of the District Administration, Security force, Churches, Civil society Organisations, Community leaders and other stakeholders towards peace, Stability and Development. He called for collective participate and cooperation between the Government and the people for good governance and equitable development in the district. He assured the people of Tuensang that their aspirations and concern would receive due attention and expressed hope that his visit would further strengthen the bond between Lok Bhavan and the people of the district.
Short speeches were also delivered by the President of ENPO, A. Chingmak, Vice President of CKS, Sipong Chang and Joint Secretary of USLP, T. Bendang Dhongrü. The Programme was chaired by DC Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa. The PowerPoint presentation on departmental activities was presented from Department of Health & Family Welfare and Rural Development. The Governor was accompanied by Commissioner & Secretary to Governor, Thavaseelam K. IAS, Joint Secretary to Governor, Firhesie Nyuwi, NCS and host of dignitaries.
