The Governor of Nagaland, Dr. Nand Kishore Yadav, visited Longleng District on 8th October 2026, and held a meeting with District Officers and Civil Society Organisations at DPDB hall Longleng.

The Governor in his address said he is pleased to be in Longleng as part of his district visit programme. Such visits provide an opportunity to understand the developmental priorities of the district, interact with different sections of society and have a firsthand appreciation of the issues and aspirations of the people.

He said as Governor, he considered important to maintain regular engagement with the districts. Nagaland has a diverse social and geographical landscape, and the progress of the State depends on ensuring that development reaches all parts of it. My visit today is therefore intended not only to review developmental activities but also to listen to the people and understand the challenges and opportunities specific to the district, he noted.

He informed that Longleng has its own distinctive social, cultural and geographical character. It is an important part of Eastern Nagaland and is home to the Phom community, whose traditions and institutions form an integral part of the cultural heritage of the State.

The district has considerable opportunities in agriculture, horticulture, handloom and handicrafts, forest-based livelihoods, tourism and entrepreneurship. With appropriate support, better infrastructure, modern technology and improved access to markets, these sectors can generate sustainable livelihoods and contribute significantly to the economic development of the district, he added.

He particularly encouraged the farmers and young entrepreneurs to look beyond traditional markets. Value addition, food processing, digital marketing and modern agricultural practices to help local products reach markets within Nagaland and beyond.

Encouraging the youths to be at the centre of this transformation, the Governor acknowledged the young people of the district possess talent, energy and aspirations, and encouraged them to acquire new skills, pursue higher education, explore entrepreneurship and become active participants in the development of their communities.

At the same time, the Governor said, development must go hand in hand with the preservation of our identity. The traditions, customary practices, indigenous knowledge, music, dance, crafts and community institutions of the Phom people are valuable assets. The cultural heritage is not an obstacle to development; it is one of the foundations on which sustainable development can be built.

With its natural beauty, cultural heritage and traditional way of life the district can attract visitors seeking authentic experiences and has significant potential for responsible and community-based tourism. With better connectivity, hospitality infrastructure and effective promotion, tourism can generate employment and create new opportunities for local communities. Good roads, reliable communication networks, quality healthcare, education and access to essential public services are fundamental requirements for inclusive development.

He therefore urged the district administration and all stakeholders to continue working with a clear focus on improving the delivery of essential services, particularly in remote and underserved areas. He acknowledged the important role played by the district administration, security forces, churches, tribal bodies, village institutions, civil society organisations and community leaders in maintaining peace, social harmony and development in the district.

Pointing out that Government programmes can achieve their intended objectives only when there is cooperation between the Government and the people, he said Development is therefore a shared responsibility, requiring transparency, accountability, community participation and mutual trust.

He also makes a special appeal to the people of Longleng to make the district a model of community-led development in Eastern Nagaland and to work together to make agriculture and horticulture more productive and market-oriented; to promote local handloom, handicrafts and traditional products; and to encourage young people to become entrepreneurs and create employment within the district. He also appealed to take collective responsibility for preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Phom community.

Advisor for Airways and Railways, A. Pongshi Phom, welcomed the Governor of Nagaland, Dr. Nand Kishore Yadav Ji, and his esteemed entourage to the district of Longleng. He also expressed his appreciation to the Government of India under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Narendra Modi for making special emphasizes and concerted efforts in transforming every life of the people in the country.

He also acknowledges numerous people’s welfare schemes and initiatives being undertaken in various sectors by the Government of India, and coined the slogan of the Prime Minister “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and “Vikshit Bharat”.

He said the Government of Nagaland under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio in Alliance with the NDA Government at the Centre is devoting strong importance towards peace, progress and development of the state. He informed that the government officials, NGOs, Civil Societies Organizations and the general public are sincerely working with active cooperation and consultation towards peace and development of the people in the district.

President Phom People's Council, Y.B. Angam Phom also expressed his gratitude to the Governor said his presence in the district is a testament of unwavering love and commitment towards the people. We believe in hard work, honesty and integrity. Peace building and Peace keeping has always been our highest virtue. Majority of our people living in the rural areas sustain on agriculture and production of handicrafts, he added.

Despite the fertility of land in the district, Angam highlighted road connectivity and marketing of products has always been an obstacle, where many a time the district headquarter is left cut off from Village and towns due to constant road subsidence and other natural disasters affecting the economy to a large extend. He also expressed his gratitude to the State Governments for the support rendered to Longleng during vulnerable time.

Longleng, being the Central point that connects to almost all the districts of Eastern Nagaland, Angam hoped for road development, Infrastructures and economic stability that can make accessibility possible and easier for the sister districts. Since upgradation to the district in 2004, he informed that Longleng is fast growing in the township development and in building sustainable community under the visionary of various administrative officers and NGOs.

He said delay of hospital construction is causing difficulties for the people and timely completion of the lighthouse (nectar) project is essential to provide students with better learning environment and facilities. Therefore, he appealed the Governor for his intervention to ensure that the construction is completed within the stipulated deadline for the benefit of our people.

During the meeting Departmental presentation was presented by the department of PWD (R&B), Agri & Allied Department and Medical Department. The programme was chaired by ADC Longleng, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, who also delivered the vote of thanks.
