Troops of 78 Bn CRPF and Civil Police of PS Sechu Zubza recovered 14.312 kgs of suspected opium on May 23, 2025, during frisking and checking on NH 29, Peducha old Police picket, from a Tata Winger bearing registration No. MN-06B-1350 coming from Senapati towards Dimapur.

 

The owner of the suspected opium, Dharam Singh resident of Ludhiana, Punjab, had boarded the Tata Winger from Senapati, Manipur. When the vehicle was stopped for checking and passengers were asked to come out and open their luggages. Dharam Singh requested to pass urine. He was permitted and went to the roadside. After a brief moment, he ran towards the hills. Jawans ran after him and apprehended him after running about 500 meters. He was brought back and asked to open his black-colored Safari trolley and olive-green bag.

 

When he opened his bag and all the clothing items were taken out, two suspected opium packets wrapped in black polythene, two Khaini dabbas filled with suspected opium, one small packet in black polythene of suspected opium, and cash amounting to Rs. 56,500/- were found. The suspected opium was weighed in front of the Magistrate, Sechu Zubza, on the spot. The total weight came to 14.312 kgs. Dharam Singh and the recovered items were handed over to PS Zubza for necessary legal action.
