The Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS), the flagship health initiative of the Government of Nagaland, has been conferred the CIPS Innovation Award 2024 in the Health Sector for redefining universal health protection through inclusive and innovative policy design.
The award was presented by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, at a ceremony held in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir on August 22, 2025, and was received on behalf of the Nagaland Health Protection Society (NHPS), Department of Health & Family Welfare, by Dr. Kika Longkumer, Joint CEO, and Dr. Yingnei Kongyak, Deputy CEO.
Conceived as a state-specific solution to ensure affordable, accessible, and equitable healthcare with financial risk protection, CMHIS brings together technological innovation, social inclusion, and financial sustainability. By integrating digital enrolment, cashless services, and real-time claim processing with an inclusive coverage model, CMHIS has set a benchmark in public health governance and stands as a step forward towards India’s vision of Universal Health Coverage.
This recognition is a tribute to the tireless efforts of policymakers, administrators, partner agencies, and frontline health workers, and validates the principle that true innovation lies in scalable, people-centric solutions. The NHPS extends heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders and citizens of Nagaland for their support in making the scheme a success.
