The Deputy Commissioner & DEO Longleng has notified all concerned that as per Section 126 of the Representation of People Act 1961, the campaigning period for General Election to the 14 Nagaland legislative Assembly 2022 shall come to an end with effect from 4:00 P.M, 25th February (Saturday) 2023 and that there is a prohibition of public meeting during 48 (forty-eight) hours ending with hour fixed for conclusion of poll. Further, no person shall-
- Convene, hold or attend join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with an election: or
- Display to the public any election matter using cinematography, television, or other similar apparatus: or
- Propagate any election matter to the public by holding or by arranging the holding of any musical concert or theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement to attract the members of the public.
Further, after the closure of the campaign period, no campaign can take place within the constituency. The presence of political functionaries/ party workers/ procession functionaries/ campaign functionaries etc who have been brought from outside the constituency and who are not voters of the constituency should not continue as their continued presence after the campaign ends may undermine the atmosphere for a free and fair poll.
The office bearer of the political party who is in charge of the state/district shall declare his piece of stay in the State Headquarters and his movement during the period in question shall remain confined normally between his party office and the place of his stay.
Any person who contravenes this provision shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term that may extend to two years, a fine, or both.
