DC & DEO Kohima, Shanavas C IAS has notified for the general information of all concerned that as per Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the campaigning period for the General Election to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, 2023 shall come to an end w.e.f. 4:00 PM, 25/02/2023, and that there is a prohibition of public meetings during the period of Forty-Eight Hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of the poll. No person shall:-
- Convene, hold or attend, join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with an election; or
- Display to the public any election matter using a cinematograph, television, or other similar apparatus; or
- Propagate any election matter to the public by holding, or by arranging the holding of, any musical concert or theatrical performance, or any other entertainment or amusement to attract the members of the public.
Any person who contravenes this provision shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, with a fine, or with both.
Further, all political functionaries shall leave the constituency immediately after the campaign period is over. However, the office bearer of the political party who is in charge of the political party of the state shall be exempted from the said restriction. Such an office bearer of the political party shall declare his/her place of stay in the State Headquarters and his/her movement during the period in question shall remain confined normally between his party office and place of stay.
