Deputy Commissioner Kohima Shanavas C IAS in an Order reiterated that the ban on burning jungles will remain enforced in Kohima district till further order.

In this connection, all the Village Councils under the jurisdiction of Kohima District have been directed to inform and warn the public to refrain from burning jungles which will lead to unnecessary forest fires and can have a catastrophic effect on the loss of public property and ecological balance of the environment. Any individual/village found violating the order will be strictly penalized under relevant sections of law and shall be liable to payment of fines. It added that the VDB Grant to the village will also be withheld till such fines are paid.
