The Food and Civil Supplies Department has issued a letter stating that on 24th November 2022, Advisor, F&CS, LM&CP and Taxes, Pukhayi Sumi declared the start of the functioning of the Nagaland State Food Commission in the presence of Chubasangla Anar, IAS Commissioner & Secretary F&CS, Y. Renbonthung Tsopoe, Secretary, F&CS and the newly appointed Chairman Medokul Sophie, members Ghovili P Achumi, and Sethrichem Sangtam.
The Nagaland State Food Commission has been set up as per the provisions of Section 16 of the National Food Security Act 2013 which came into being in 2013. NFSA 2013 has been implemented in Nagaland since 2016. The main function of the Commission is to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the NFSA-2013 in the State and advise the Government, their agencies and NGOs involved in the implementation of food and nutrition related schemes. The SFC will also either suo-moto or on receipt of complaints inquire into the violation of the entitlement under such schemes. Complaints and grievances by beneficiaries can be addressed either directly to the Commission or to the District Grievance Redressal Officer (ADC Hq. of the District).
