The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and the District Administration Wokha, organized a programme for free distribution of aids and assistive devices under the ADIP and RVY schemes of the Government of India. The event was held at Town Hall, Wokha, on April 7, 2026.
Extra Assistant Commissioner Wokha, Sangmou Khiamniungan, graced the programme as special guest. In his short speech, he emphasized the role of senior citizens in guiding society, noting that with age comes maturity and wisdom, and highlighting their importance in shaping community development. District Welfare Officer Wokha, C. James Ezung, also addressed the gathering, underlining the significance of the schemes and the role of aids and assistive devices in improving the quality of life for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Altogether, 50 beneficiaries received various accessories including wheelchairs, wheelchairs with commodes, chairs with commodes, knee braces, lumbar belts, walking sticks, crutches, hearing aids, TLM kits for children with disabilities, silicon cushions, and blind sticks. The distribution was carried out under two categories: senior citizens under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) scheme, and persons with disabilities under the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids/Appliances (ADIP) scheme.
The RVY scheme provides physical aids and assisted-living devices for senior citizens belonging to the BPL category, fully funded by the Government of India. The ADIP scheme, also a central initiative, enables persons with disabilities to acquire modern, durable, and standard aids and appliances to improve independent functioning and support physical, social, and psychological rehabilitation.
The programme reflected the government’s commitment to empower Divyangjan and senior citizens, ensuring inclusivity and dignity through practical support and assistance.
