Turning Point Organisation which was empanelled by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Mon Division as Implementing Support Agency (ISA) to facilitate constitution of Gram Panchayat i.e. Village Council/ WATSAN Committee etc. carried out information, education and communication awareness campaign as JJM Support Activity starting from 30th November 2021 in 30 villages under Mon District where Jal Jeevan Mission is being implemented and also in villages where the scheme is currently ongoing.
During the course of the campaign with the Village Council, WATSAN Committee, GBs, ASHA and ANGANWADI workers, church bodies, students etc. it was highlighted by ISA that in order to implement JJM in their concerned villages for water supply in adequate quantity on regular and sustainable basis to households and also to provide piped connection to ANGANWADI centres, schools, health centres and community hall, the villagers should actively participate in implementation of JJM schemes and contribute 5% in the form of labour/kind/cash which is pre-requisite for implementation of JJM schemes, to have at least five women representative in WATSAN Committee for water quality monitoring and surveillance and also to levy water user fee/ charge for sustainable Operation & Maintenance (O & M) of the scheme in future and also reiterated that every new household constructed should have its own latrine and open defecation to be totally prohibited in the village and every household should manage grey water from kitchen and toilet for safe disposal and not to allow it to remain stagnant, which is hazardous and unhealthy.
ISA also impressed upon the villagers to pass resolutions to totally ban Single-Use Plastic (SUP), littering and burning of plastic in the village and that community level awareness campaign around the elimination of SUP will be launched and proper management of the plastic waste will be implemented as per the guidelines issued.
