Longleng District Administration and Mahila Shakti Kandra-District Level for women in collaboration with PBCA Woman Department, World Vision Longleng and One Stop Center, Longleng jointly organized the International Women's Day celebration cum Folk Dance Competition on the theme "Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow" on 8th March 2022 at BPCA Convention hall, Longleng.
Special guest, Programme Executive, All India Radio, M. Lemjan, in her speech said that in the rapid changing world, women play a great role. There are diverse personalities among women but everyone has something to contribute to the society and urged them to know their own capabilities.
She stated that gender equality still remains unfulfilled. She said that some causes of gender equality is due to lack of proper education, lack of work opportunity, job segregation, lack of right protection, religious freedom, political freedom etc. Lemjan said that it is very necessary to have equal social mindset amongst men and women. All women should realise that women empowerment is about realising self-worth and it has to start from oneself.
Short speeches were also delivered by Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, M. Shayung Phom; Executive Secretary PBCA, Tialemba and Project Officer, WV, Lalremthang.
During the occasion, BBBP Awards were awarded to 22 personalities. President ENWO & Rtd DEO, Shamthai, and CMO Longleng, Dr. Obangjungla were awarded the Phenomenal Woman Award in recognition of their excellent service to society.
In the folk dance competition, five blocks participated and Yongnyah block emerged as the winners while Shakai came in second. Moishen, PBCA and Hela ja Wung presented a special number. Keynote address was delivered by Phungla Phom, WWO while the program was chaired by Angbhen, women secretary PBCA.
