World Veterinary Day in Kohima district was celebrated at Drill Hall, 4th NAP Thizama on 24th April 2021.

The program was chaired by Dy Commandant, Khruosutho at NAP Thizama. He requested the participants to acquire knowledge as much as possible from the programme and disseminate to neighbors, society and community

Delivering the keynote, Chief Veterinary Officer Kohima, Dr. Rokozo Dolie said that World Veterinary day is celebrated all over the world on the last Saturday of April every year. It aims to promote the Veterinary profession and work on improvement of animal and human welfare, the environment, food safety and practices of animal transport and quarantine.

DDDO Kohima, Dr. Akangnungla highlighted on some diseases and its prevention including Classical Swine Fever, African Swine Fever, Foot and Mouth Disease, and also the importance of controlling Rabies, Canine Distemper, and Parvovirus infection in dogs.

Nagaland Veterinarians' Association (NVA) Presidential address was read out by General Secretary, NVA Dr. Keduzol Ltu.

VAS Chiephobozou, Dr. Vikuolie Mezhatsu spoke on the theme, "Veterinarian Response to Covid-19 Crisis" wherein he mentioned the activities carried out in Kohima district. Health care and Veterinary service was provided in all the veterinary institutes throughout the lockdown. The Veterinarians and para-veterinarians in the district assisted the medical staff in quarantine duty in Meriema and K. Badze quarantine centers. QCP Khuzama handled sanitization of all vehicles entering Nagaland at Interstate Police Check post Khuzama as directed by administration. Names of Veterinarians specialized in diagnostics were recorded and submitted to higher authority to back up BSL-3 in Kohima. He further stated that as and when required the department is prepared to participate in the second wave too.

            Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Ketholenuo Metha. On the occasion of World Veterinary Day, Free Anti-Rabies vaccination was provided to 89 dogs in Thizama.
