Kohima District Planning and Development Board decided to recommend the proposal on Taxi parking within Kohima Town as submitted by the Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayats.
This was decided in its first DPDB meeting for the year of 2022 held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kohima and Vice Chairman of DPDB, Gregory Thejawelie NCS in DPDB's Conference Hall Kohima on 15th January 2022.
The Chairman informed the members that the association had submitted the proposal based on traffic congestion created by multiple taxi parkings in urban area.
The Association pointed out that besides the Government designated taxis parking areas; the taxis were still found parking at Old BOC area and near Assistant Director of supplies cum godown office respectively, adding multiple problems to the acute traffic congestion to those areas. Therefore, the Association had proposed for immediate shifting of taxis to its designated parking stations as per the Government standing order.
In this regard, the board deliberated on the concern issues and noting the requirement of certain measures should be taken to avoid the traffic congestion in the town, decided to recommend the matter to the government for necessary action.
On 70% of the vehicle owners utilizing public roads as personal parking space at regular night, which creates huge inconveniences and traffic problem everywhere, especially in wards and colony roads, the Board also decided to suggest for implementation of parking provision in the upcoming building on the road sides within the urban areas.
The Chairman reminded the district officers to participate and contribute in various developmental activities towards the growth of the district.
On Adoption Committees, Gregory requested the committees to collect the first installment and carried out the activities and to give report on their activity updates in the next DPDB meeting.
CMO Kohima, Dr. Vezokholu Theyo also gave an update on the 15-18 years of age Covid vaccination, where she informed that till yesterday a total number of 1238 were vaccinated from the age group and added that the response was good.
CMO also informed that ongoing session sites were UPHC Siekhazou, Potter lane and NHAK while special sessions for school's children were also conducted yesterday in Little Flower Higher Secondary School where 238 students were vaccinated. Meanwhile creation of session sites for other schools and colleges were under process and will be conducted from next week, she informed.
Power department was entrusted to give PowerPoint presentation on its departmental activities in the next DPDB meeting.
