The 80th Independence Day was celebrated at the Local Ground, Meluri, on August 15, 2026, with Advisor, NSDMA and Inland Waterways, Z Nyusietho Nyuthe, as the Chief Guest.
The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Chief Guest, followed by the Rashtriya Salute, National Song and National Anthem. The Chief Guest inspected the parade contingents and addressed the gathering.
The ceremonial parade was led by Parade Commander Vedupe Lasuh, NPS, Assistant Commandant, 5th NAP Meluri and Rovi Krocha, ABI, 5th NAP Meluri, as the Parade 2nd-in-Command.
The parade contingents comprised Village Guards of Phor Sector, Ex-servicemen; Village Guards of Lephori Sector and the NVG Pipe Band of Meluri.
On the occasion, the MLA & Advisor also administered the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan pledge, encouraging the gathering to collectively commit themselves to creating a drug-free society. The pledge reaffirmed the collective commitment to preventing drug abuse, promoting awareness and supporting the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat (Drug-Free India).
The celebration also featured Cultural presentations by the Khumiasü Cultural Group (Women) and Riehuope Cultural Group (Men) adding colour and vibrancy to the celebration.
MLA, Dr. Neisatuo Mero, accompanying the Chief Guest, inaugurated the exhibition stalls set up by various departments.
As part of the day’s programme, The Meluri Town Council visited CHC Meluri, and "Hope Children Home" facilitated by Sakhi-One Stop Centre.
