The 19th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2026, concluded with Minister for Rural Development and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir, as the chief patron of the closing event, held at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on 25th September, 2026.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the tournament, Metsubo recounted the life story of late Master Imchaba, whose influence went far beyond the classroom and changed the landscape of sports in the state. Late Master Imchaba was born during a transitional period in history when our society was moving from headhunting to Christianity era and modern education. He later became a teacher at Impur Mission Training School and spread the gospel. While teaching, he also encouraged his students to play sports and Dr. Talimeren Ao, who became the first Naga Olympian and the first captain of the independent Indian football team was one of his students. Late Master Imchaba was among the earliest Naga players of volleyball and badminton when these games were first introduced in the then Naga Hills by the American Missionaries, the minister said.

The minister appreciated the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA) for upholding Late Master Imchaba's legacy through the memorial trophy and also providing an opportunity for young sports persons to exhibit their talents.

He congratulated the finalists and expressed appreciation to all the teams from across the states, who participated in this memorial trophy.

The game was a fierce contest from the beginning, giving a captivating performance from both the teams. MH-10 Kohima jumped into a lead in early 2-sets, but the Savage Setters volleyball Club, Chungtia clawed back in another 2-sets, securing the sets win to 2:2. However, in a thrilling finish in the last set, the SSVC, nailed the point to a 15:12 lead, cornering the MH-10 Kohima, thereby, sealing the victory trophy in their favour.
