Deputy Commissioner Mon, Thavaseelan K IAS stated that P Paiwang Konyak, Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation, Railways & Land Resources and Minister-in-charge of Mon District for COVID-19 response convened a consultative meeting to discuss the second phase of the Lock Down with the District Administration, Police, NGOs and Civil Societies on 15th April, 2020 at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Mon. He also visited the District Hospital on the 16th of April and donated a sum of two lakh.
The following issues were highlighted:-
Addressing the members present in the meeting, the Minister reiterated the need for good coordination between the District Administration, Police, NGOs and Civil Societies in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 in Mon district.
Importance was stressed on the sealing of inter-state/district and international borders in an all-out effort to tighten border vigilance. The Civil Societies suggested that the School Education Department should come up with an innovative arrangement to conduct homeschooling and online classes for Government School students to which the Minister gave assurance that the matter would be taken up at the higher level.
For those students/individuals stranded in cities and other towns, it was decided that for now they will be asked to stay wherever they are and assistance would be provided to address their grievances.
The Minister made an appeal to the NGOs and Civil Societies to identify genuine needy families who were worst struck due to the lock down so that required assistance can be given to them.The Minister also had a separate interaction with doctors to understand issues faced by them.
