Moatsu, the premier festival of the Aos was celebrated at Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung today (2nd May 2022) with Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, Pangyu Phom as the special guest and Minister, Rural Development, Nagaland, Metsubu Jamir as the guest of honour.
Phom said Aos, being the pioneer among the Nagas in many fields, have contributed to the growth of the Naga society. Having said that the special guest asked the gathering to make the celebration a time of realization of one’s weaknesses and regaining the past glory. The Minister asked the Ao community whether they are carrying forward the good works of the forefathers and are at the forefront today. He said Aos should realize that they have greater responsibilities than before, therefore, it is time to move forward by leading the Naga society once again as a big brother should.
Pangyu maintained that with the change in time we need to change our perspective and renew our focus. He said as Nagas we should uphold and preserve our rich tradition but should also do away with the rigidity of traditional practices that hampers the growth of our society.
Metsubo, in his brief speech, congratulated the Fazl Ali College for achieving the milestone of A-grade NAAC accreditation. He reminded the people of the significance of the celebration of the Moatsu festival, and asked the Ao community to uphold the rich culture and tradition.
The welcome address was delivered by the President, Ao Senden, Chubawati Longchar, Moatsu Traditional song was presented by Chuchuyimpang Riongsanger Tatar Putu Menden. Prologue and Ode to Moatsu were presented by Drama Club, Fazl Ali College, and Fazl Ali College Students’ Union respectively. The invocation was said by the Pastor, Sungkumen Baptist Church, Rev. O Yashi, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Principal, Fazl Ali College, Dr. Temjenwapang.
