In order to strengthen policing in the State, Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio & Deputy CM & Home Minister, Y. Patton flagged off 35 Boleros, 100 bikes and 2 Mobile Forensic Investigation Van (MFVs) for Nagaland police on 4th July, 2024 at Police Complex, Chumoukedima.
Speaking at the flagging off, Rio stated that the addition of these vehicles will help Police transport for quick response and more effective in the service of the public. He said that with the remarkable economic growth in the country forging ahead to be fifth and going forward to the fourth and third in few years’ time. Our State has also positive economic growth particularly in the private economic enterprises and rapid growth in urban areas in Dimapur, Chumoukedima, Niuland and peak areas like Mokokchung and Tuensang. In this economic growth the economic enterprises also bring in many multiple problems like increases in crimes and we are concern for the security and safety of all the citizens particularly business community, the CM said.
He pointed that, Dimapur being the economic capital of the State there are extortions, illegal taxation and crimes as bordering with Assam all kinds of people live here and gives a place of rearing all kinds of illegal activities and social elements, for which policing had to take a challenge to be active and put a check on these areas of Dimapur and surrounding areas. Asserting if Dimapur areas are put to check than all the State will be a safer place, he urged the Police to upgrade themselves with latest technology and blue policy against any social elements in urban areas.
Over the years, police are actively performing their duties with effectiveness in bringing laurel to our State by putting a check on crimes, criminal and smuggling across the State. The CM hoped that with the addition of new Vehicles will give a division and be able to track criminals and chase when and where operation and connection is leading to. He assured the police that Government will always support and encouraged the Police and Administration to continue with their commendable job diligently, as they are the backbone of the government.
Rio further urged the public to support and cooperate with the Police and Administration in performing their duties effectively and provide peace and security to all the citizens. He was optimistic that with the addition of these new Vehicles, they will achieve higher goals and gain confidence of the public.
Deputy CM & Home Minister, Y. Patton in his address stated that vehicles to our fleet, is to fortify our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our citizens. These vehicles symbolise our dedication to responding swiftly and effectively to the needs of the people. They are an essential resource that will enhance our operational capabilities, particularly in areas where mobility is crucial for timely intervention.
Patton asserted that the outlook of crime is continuously evolving. Emerging and new methods of committing crimes have put immense pressure on our policing needs, and was hopeful that addition of these new vehicles will significantly bolster our Police force's mobility. It will enable quicker response time, greater reach, and more effective patrolling. In urban areas like Dimapur with population density and urban spread present unique challenges, having a well-equipped Police force is not just a necessity but urgency.
He further urged the citizens of Nagaland to continue their partnership with the Police, as their vigilance, cooperation, and timely reporting of suspicious activities play a crucial role in preventing crime and maintaining peace. The government is committed to providing all necessary support to the Police force, and understand that effective law enforcement requires not just vehicles and equipment, but also continuous training, adequate resources, and a supportive environment. We are dedicated to addressing these needs and ensuring that our Police force remains one of the best in the country, he stated.
He extend his best wishes to the Nagaland Police as they embark on this new chapter with enhanced capabilities and hope to continue to strive towards excellence in law enforcement and work together to build a safer, more secure Nagaland.
Director General of police, Rupin Sharma, IPS in his welcome address thanked the Chief Minister, under whose direction and guidance, the Nagaland Police have taken a substantial stride towards effective tactics way to deal with the situation. He said that some of the vehicles are connected with GPS and idea of this connection is to make it more effective, safer and more secure for the State. He stated that the addition of new vehicles is a momentous achievement for the State, and will enhance the operational capacities of the law and enforcement agency. The State police have taken a transformative step with inclusion of these vehicles and with this addition of vehicles in line with commitment to improving public safety, quick response time during emergencies, ensure justice, solving crimes, and creating a secure environment for the citizens.
