An initiative called Safai Apnao Bimari Bhagao was launched at Mangkolemba, Mokokchung. The intensive cleanliness drive, aligned with the Stop Diarrhoea campaign, took place on 12th July 2024 at the ADC conference hall in Mangkolemba.

ADC Mangkolemba, T. Lankonsen Tsanglao chaired the meeting to discuss the initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MOHUA) under the Swacch Bharat Mission-Urban, which aims to achieve garbage-free status for all cities by 2026. He emphasized the need for active participation from ward authorities, NGOs, and newly elected Mangkolemba town councilors to ensure the success of the initiative. He also instructed all line departments assigned with task to submit report of actions taken during the drive.

Senior Medical Officer of Community Health Centre (CHC) Mangkolemba, Dr. Sentiyenla, provided insights on the causes of diarrhoea and suggested preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease. She stressed the importance of seeking timely medical treatment and advice from healthcare professionals. Additionally, she outlined the various activities planned by the Health and Family Welfare Department during the campaign period.

The meeting saw a significant turnout from various departments including CDPO Mangkolemba, Mangkolemba town councillors, representatives from PHED, SDAO, schools, MTSU, MALT, GBs, and ward chairmen.

Safai Apnao Bimari Bhagao initiative emphasizes comprehensive interventions such as cleanliness drives, advocacy, and inter-departmental collaboration, to be executed by all Urban Local Bodies. The primary goal is to promote cleanliness and combat diseases, a critical endeavour during the monsoon season. The drive will be carried out in two phases by various departments within the subdivisions from 15th July to 31st August 2024.
