The 78th Independence Day was celebrated at local ground Wokha, with Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan as the chief guest on 15th of August 2024. The Chief Guest unfurled the national flag and took Rashtriya Salute from 10 parade contingents consisting of DEF Wokha, 7th NAP Bhandari, Home Guards & Civil Defence, 10 NAP (IR), Ex-Serviceman, NCC Mt. Tiyi College, NCC GHSS Wokha, Bharat Scout & Guides and Fernbrook School Wokha as the Band Party.

The parade contingents were led by SDPO, Wokha Sangthing Khiam (NPS) as parade commander and ABI Shingnya Kiamnungan 12th NAP (IR) as parade second in command.

Other highlights of the programme included, feeding of jail inmates by Team Metamorphosis, Mhondamo Memorial Hospital by Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital by SBI Wokha, 24th AR hospital by CDPO Wokha and Panacea Nursing Home by Red Cross Wokha.

Folk song and folk dance was presented by Wokha town Eloe Eramo Okho and Phiro cultural troupe, Perennial School Wokha presented a special presentation echoes of Independence-honouring our Heroes.

After delivering the Independence Day speech, the chief guest handed over District Level awards to the following employees for their outstanding performance and achievements in work culture and assigned duties and responsibilities. ABSI, DEF Wokha Elithung Tungoe; Forester, Wokha Forest Division M. Myingthungo Yanthan; LDA SDO (C) Ralan Y. Abemo Kikon; UBC DEF Wokha Mhathung Kikon; Forest Guard, Doyang Plantation Division Y. Khyopenthung Shitiri and LDA PWD (R&B) C. Thechano were the awardees.

Later the chief guest inaugurated the stalls put up by various departments and Self-Help Groups.
