Nand Kishore Yadav was sworn in as the 23rd Governor of Nagaland in a ceremony held at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima on 13th March 2026.
The oath of office was administered by the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, Justice Ashutosh Kumar, in the presence of the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Dr. Neiphiu Rio. The ceremony was attended by members of the State Cabinet, legislators, senior government officials, representatives of various organizations, and invited dignitaries.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, the Governor interacted with the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues.
Later, the Governor addressed the people of the State, conveying his commitment to work for the welfare and progress of Nagaland, and expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended to him. Nand Kishore Yadav also expressed his sincere gratitude to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, for the trust and confidence reposed on him with the important constitutional responsibility.
Nand Kishore Yadav said Nagaland occupies a special place in the rich and diverse fabric of great nation, India. The State is known for its vibrant cultural heritage, strong community values, and the warmth and resilience of its people. The traditions and spirit of the Naga people are a source of pride not only for the State but for the entire nation.
India today is undergoing a period of remarkable transformation under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The country has made notable progress in economic development, modern infrastructure, advancements in science, technology and space, social empowerment, and sporting excellence. These achievements have strengthened India’s standing on the global stage and reinforced its emergence as a rising global power.
The Governor said that the North Eastern region has also witnessed renewed focus and investment in recent years, particularly in connectivity, infrastructure and economic development. These initiatives are expanding opportunities and integrating the region more closely with the national growth story while preserving its unique identity and traditions.
Nagaland too has been steadily progressing across various sectors such as infrastructure, education, agriculture, tourism, digital connectivity and entrepreneurship. These developments are creating new possibilities for economic growth and improving the quality of life for the people, he added.
He said he was deeply encouraged by the energy and talent of the youth of Nagaland, who are excelling in diverse fields including education, sports, arts, entrepreneurship and public service. Their achievements reflect the creativity, determination and potential of the younger generation.
At the same time, he remarked that creating meaningful opportunities for educated youth remains an important priority. It is encouraging to see many young people exploring avenues in entrepreneurship, agriculture-based enterprises, tourism and the digital economy. With the right skills, innovation and institutional support, these sectors can generate employment and encourage the youth to become creators of opportunities.
The Governor also mentioned that the aspirations of the people for lasting peace, stability and development remain paramount. Peace and harmony provide the foundation for sustainable progress, and with collective effort and mutual understanding, Nagaland will continue to move forward on the path of prosperity.
Lastly he affirm that as Governor of the state, he will strive to uphold the Constitution of India and work in close cooperation with the State Government and all sections of society to promote good governance, inclusive development for the welfare of the people to strengthen peace, encourage development and preserve the unique cultural heritage of Nagaland.
