The Dimapur district celebrated the 80th Independence Day at the District Sports Stadium (DDSC Stadium) on August 15, 2026, with Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Government of Nagaland, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, as the chief guest.
The ceremonial programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag and the taking of the Rashtriya Salute, followed by inspection of the parade and the Independence Day address by the chief guest.
The parade contingents was led by the Parade Commander, BHM, Havildar Khekato Sema. A nine- parade contingents participated including the Police Commissionerate, Dimapur; Home Guard, Civil Defence and SDRF; Ex-servicemen; NCC Dimapur Government College; NCC Greenwood Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; Scouts and Guides of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; MGM Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; and the 15th Assam Rifles Band Platoon.
The programme also featured the presentation of District Award to 10 officials in recognition of their outstanding performance and dedication towards public service. The awardees include - K. Akahoto Yeptho, Head Constable, Excise, Dimapur; Mapusenla Jamir, Assistant Horticulture Officer, Dimapur; Guipeule Nsarangbe, LDA-cum-Computer Assistant, District Election Office, Dimapur; Er. Nagaho Sema, Sub-Divisional Officer, PHED, Urban Division, Dimapur; Takosangba Ao, Animal Attendant, Veterinary Hospital, Dimapur; Rosal Yanthan, Unarmed Branch Constable, East Police Station, Dimapur; C. Merenba Ao, C/Operator, Establishment Branch, East Police Station, Dimapur; Nirendra Mushahary, Accounts & Programme Assistant, My Bharat Kendra, Dimapur; Avika Zhimomi, on behalf of the District Child Protection Officer, District Child Protection Unit, Dimapur; and Bipen Lotha, LDA, East Dimapur Town Council.
The program included a series of cultural performances- Patriotic dance presentations were performed by PM Shri GHSS, Burma Camp, and Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, while folk dances were presented by the Dimasa Kachari Cultural Troupe, Bamunphukhuri, Dimapur, and Tsunrun Yimkhung Cultural Club, Dimapur.
Meanwhile, as a part of the celebration, Minister Kruse also inaugurated exhibition stalls showcasing various activities and initiatives by government departments and agencies. The exhibition showcased participation from the Government of Nagaland, including the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Horticulture, the District Rural Development Agency, the Department of Industries and Commerce, the Nagaland Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation, the Department of Health and Family Welfare, the Department of Cooperation, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, the Directorate of Information and Publicity, and the Dimapur Police.
The day-long programme concluded with prize distribution, followed by the ceremonial retreat conducted by 15 Assam Rifles.
