The 80th Independence Day was celebrated at Zunheboto headquarters on August 15, 2026, with a series of programmes held at the Local Ground. The celebration was attended by Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, as the Special Guest.

The celebration commenced with the arrival of the Special Guest, followed by the singing of the National Song, hoisting of the National Flag, National Anthem, inspection of the parade and the Independence Day address by the Special Guest.

The programme featured a march-past by various contingents, which was led by parade commander Assistant commandant Bokivi (NPS) 8th NAP Naltoqa, Zunheboto. The parade contingents include the District Executive Force, Zunheboto, 8th NAP, Naltoqa and Ex-servicemen.

The programme followed with District awards which were awarded to Home Guard Civil Defence and SDRF Department and 18 other individuals from various departments. And also 8 Farmers from zunheboto district were awarded District Level Farmer Award with certificate and cash prize.

Special number was presented by Lighi K Awomi of GHSS Zunheboto and a women’s folk dance by the Sumi Totomi Loka (STL) Project Colony (West).

The minister inaugurated the exhibition stalls which were set up by six departments under Zunheboto district and a Camps of Medical department, Jan Sunwai and Mission Vastsalya was set up.

The programme was compered by Asst. Professor Nitokali V Chishi, Zunheboto Government College (ZGC) and Asst. Professor, Achok M Konyak, ZGC.

The Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ZCCI) visited the District Hospital, while the State Bank of India (SBI) main branch Zunheboto visited District Jail and the Social Welfare Department visited Orphanage Home Sukhalu. A football exhibition match was held between DC XI and Sumi Hoho XI. The day’s celebrations concluded with the beating of retreat by the District Executive Force (DEF) Zunheboto, in the evening.
