Nagaland Governor, Nand Kishore Yadav visited the State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM), Dimapur, on 8th September 2026 and interacted with students and faculty.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Nand Kishore Yadav said that hospitality was much more than an industry and was fundamentally about welcoming people, understanding their needs, respecting differences and creating memorable experiences. He said Nagaland had immense potential in tourism owing to its natural beauty, rich biodiversity, vibrant traditions, distinctive cuisine and diverse cultural heritage.
He stressed the importance of professionally trained youth in strengthening the State’s hospitality sector and encouraged students of SIHM to explore careers beyond government employment, including entrepreneurship. He urged them to become job creators rather than job seekers by establishing restaurants, cafés, homestays, catering businesses and tourism ventures.
The Governor also called for greater collaboration between SIHM and hotels, resorts, restaurants and tourism organisations to provide students with internships, industry exposure and placement opportunities. He said Nagaland should promote year-round and community-based tourism through homestays, eco-tourism, culinary and cultural tourism.
Yadav encouraged the students to carry “competence, character and compassion” throughout their professional lives and said Nagaland’s traditional warmth should be combined with modern professionalism. He also appreciated the faculty and staff of SIHM for their efforts in nurturing the State’s youth and urged students to dream beyond their circumstances, learn beyond textbooks and work beyond their comfort zones.
Later, Governor Nand Kishore Yadav planted a sapling at the institute.
A formal programme was held at the BTR, with Nobono and Temsulung serving as the comperes. Welcome speeches were delivered by Deepak Srivastava, Principal, SIHM Dimapur, and Ashok Sethi, CEO, SIHM Dimapur. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Naro.
