International Day for Older Person was Celebrated at Town Hall, Tuensang on 1st October 2026, on the theme "The Age of Longevity: Rethinking systems for Longer Lives" with Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa as Special Guest. The programme was organised by the Department of Social Welfare in Collaboration with United Tribal of Elders, Leaders Union (UTELU) Tuensang.
In his speech, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa stated that we should acknowledge the contribution made by the Senior Citizens for the betterment of the community. She also remarked that younger generations should not ignore the words of wisdom given by Elders but to learn from them because every Older Person has significantly contributed in building a peaceful and harmonious society. She also urged the elders to impart their vast experience and knowledge in handicrafts, Cultural and traditional medicinal plants for the younger generations. The DC urged the younger generation to create an environment, where ageing is blessings not fear.
Other Highlights of the day include welcome address by T. Longleng Luckpan District Welfare Officer Tuensang; Presentation of District Level Distinguish Senior Citizens Award 2026 to K. Yanchumong Chang and K. Ayanla; Special Prayer for Elderly Person by C. Laipan Phom Associate Pastor, Phom Baptist Attoi; and a vote of thanks by the President UTELU, Impongsoted. The Programme was chaired by Wongto Chang, CDPO Sangsangnyu Project. The Programme was followed by Free Medical Camp organised by the Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
