Pongidong village under the Wokha district became the first village to successfully implement the JJM scheme which was inaugurated on 11th May 2002 in the presence of EE PHED, Wokha Er. Imnazuliu Ao, village functionaries, GBs, church leaders, and department officials from PHED department, Wokha. Through the implementation of this scheme, Pongidong village which has a population of about 2813 and 466 House Hold as per the 2011 census will be benefited by way of getting a sufficient water supply.
With the inauguration of JJM at Pongidong, every household in the village will be benefited as tap water has been connected to the entire household besides that connections have also been done in a strategic location like the community hall, Government Middle Schools, Primary Health Centre, Churches which is a first of its kind in the village.
With the installation and implementation of the JJ mission, there has been tremendous improvement in all walks of life, the villagers are now cleaner and greener with the abundant availability of water. It has also reduced the economic burden on the villagers from the purchase of water from private water suppliers which is not affordable for all the villagers, besides improvement of water quality the problem of water scarcity experienced by those rearing livestock has witnessed a great relief and a source of encouragement especially those engaged in animal husbandry sector.
Apart from JJM, the Swatch Bharat Mission (SBM) has created a great boost for the villagers as under this mission numerous household in the village has constructed toilets, which has contributed to making the village an open defecation free village, which is a noteworthy achievement for the village. Under this mission (SBM) community dustbins and common urinals & toilets in public places have also been constructed.
With the advent of these missions in the village, a sense of awareness was instilled in the minds of the villagers on the importance of hygienic living conditions which is of course a remarkable achievement. With such developments, the lifestyle style of the villagers has observed tremendous changes impacting the way of life which is quite evident in their daily life activities to supplement one such example villagers have now taken up the habit of using dustbins more frequently instead of throwing waste randomly.
The Pongidong village Council & Village Development Board (VDB) extends their sincere appreciation to the Government of Nagaland, PHED department for successfully implementing the mission on time, and also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of drinking water and sanitation Government of India under whose direction and guidance the work has been executed.
