An Orientation Programme for Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) under Chumoukedima District was held on 27th August 2026, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Chumoukedima. The programme was attended by Nodal Officers of ELCs, Campus Ambassadors and representatives from institutions having Electoral Literacy Clubs in the district.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Kevethito Rose, EAC & Officer-in-Charge of Election. He also gave an overview of the election machinery in the State and highlighted the significance of voter literacy in strengthening participatory democracy. Emphasising the role of ELCs, he described their members as “agents of change in the society” and encouraged them to create awareness and promote informed and ethical participation in the electoral process.
Rose also briefed the participants on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, particularly the Enumeration phase. He stressed the importance of voter awareness in achieving the objective of ensuring that “no eligible voter is left behind, and no ineligible voter is to be included.” He further highlighted the role of ELCs in disseminating correct information and encouraging citizens to participate in the revision exercise.
A detailed briefing on the SIR schedule, Enumeration process and various activities being undertaken as part of the ongoing revision was presented by Meyietele, Assistant Programmer, Election Branch, Chumoukedima. The session also focused on the role of ELCs in disseminating accurate information among students, young voters and the wider community.
An interactive discussion and clarification session was subsequently held, during which participants raised queries relating to the SIR and voter awareness activities. The queries were addressed and necessary clarifications were provided by the officials.
The programme concluded with concluding remarks and a vote of thanks by Kevethito Rose, who expressed appreciation to the participating institutions, Nodal Officers, Campus Ambassadors and representatives for their active participation. He encouraged them to continue serving as effective ambassadors of electoral awareness in their respective institutions and communities.
The programme reaffirmed the importance of Electoral Literacy Clubs as an effective platform for fostering electoral awareness among young citizens and encouraging informed, responsible and active participation in democracy.
