In Longleng the Phom Baptist Church Association (PBCA) in collaboration with World Vision, India Longleng observed PBCA - Green Mission Sunday cum World Environment Day 2022 with S. Phangnon Konyak, MP Rajya Sabha, and Dharmendra Prakash, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, Nagaland as the Special Guest and Guest of Honour respectively on 5th June 2022 at PBCA Conversation Hall, Nyengching.
In her speech, Phangnon Konyak called upon the students and citizens to come forward and make Longleng the Champion and Warriors of Climate Change by following the initiative of the PBCA. Longleng is a small district in a small state, but giant activities and great achievements are coming up with the Church taking up environmental concerns and social issue is a unique approach of the PBCA and congratulated the noble service of the PBCA.
Phangnon asserted that Climate Change is a global issue but we can respond to it locally in a simple way by planting trees and redressing the global issue. Pointing out that social media is a powerful tool, she urged the students to use it to encourage others by posting the initiative taking place in the district for global impact.
She said after the creation of nature God has entrusted man to take care of nature. But unlimited human greed has exploited the mother earth and its resources beyond the limit and so we are facing the crisis today because we have ignored the real purpose of God.
She also said that the drought-like situation declared by the state government and reports of snowfalls in various parts of the state in the recent past indicate that climate change has started affecting the environment of our state threatening our food security which we cannot ignore. She also informed the concern of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his five strategies to control climate change.
Phangnon also inaugurated the Common Facility Centre (CHC) building at PBCA Nyengching Longleng on 4th June.
In his Keynote address N. Tialemba Phom, Executive Secretary PBCA highlighted the activities of the PBCA's Green Mission. He informed that Green Mission was launched in the year 2018 and since then planted more than 20 thousand saplings and 9 thousand saplings were distributed to the local churches in the district.
He asserted that since God has gifted nature to mankind it has become responsible for the Church to protect and care for the beauty of His creation. He appealed to the gathering to disseminate the message to others.
Dharmendra Prakash, IFS also spoke and exhorted the gathering. The Deputy Commissioner Longleng M. Shayung Phom delivered a short speech on behalf of the District Administration and while Lalremthang, Project Officer World Vision, India Longleng also presented the activities of World Vision India Longleng towards the protection of the environment.
The highlights of the celebration were a special presentation by the Bautung GHSS, St. Joseph School, Good Shepherd School, Christian School, Vision Vale School, and Phom Lempong School.
To mark the event of PBCA - Green Mission and World Environment day 2022, a two-day tree plantation drive was initiated along the roadside from Dikhu river to Longleng town jointly taken up by the District Administration, Phom Students' Conference, PBCA, and students body of Yachem, Noksosang, Yaongyimchen, Alayong, Orangkong, and Hamlikong.
The program was held under the theme "Preserving God's own Green Earth - One Earth".
