Shamator celebrated the 80th Independence Day with Bashangmongba Chang, Minister, Housing, Mechanical Engineering, Government of Nagaland as special guest. After the National song, the Minister hoisted the National Flag, followed by inspection of the parade contingents, and delivered the Independence Day speech followed by National Song and National Anthem. Later the Minister inaugurated the stalls set up by different departments.

The Minister also presented the district awards to Thsangchingla, Staff Nurse CHC Shamator; H. Kihomong, MTS DC’s office Shamator; S. Thsanso Yimchunger, Sangphur village Horticulture sector; Tosangla, Sangphur village Sericulture sector; Y. Hekamla, Sangphur village Vermicompost Production & Utilisation; K. Zhelo, Yakor Progressive fish farmer; Throngkiuba Yimchunger, Dairy farmer; K. Ato, Shamator village, Integrated Farming System; Nitoho Katty Sekiur-B village, Integrated Farming System; Shitomong Kutur village Horticulture Sector, Jonathan, Chessore village, Coffee Farmer; T. Rithrong, Chessore village, Agriculture sector.

The March pass was led by Parade Commander, Pitovi Sema, Assistant Commandant, 3rd NAP Battalion. The parade contingents comprise of DEF Shamator, NVG, GHSS Shamator, GHSS Shamator, CHS Shamator, St. Xavier Higher Secondary School Shamator, 32 Assam Rifles Pipe Band.

Other highlights of the programme included cultural and entertainment presentations from Kihoto Theological College Cultural Troupe, Emerald Academy School, Lünsoberü Club, Mongtsüwong Cultural Troupe and Alipok Cultural Troupe.
