The Department of Soil & Water Conservation held an interactive session with Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, Agriculture Production Commissioner, Government of Nagaland on 11th November 2020 at the conference hall of the Directorate of Soil & Water Conservation, Kohima.
During the session, K. Zhekheto Awomi, Director, Soil & Water Conservation, presented a brief profile and initiatives of the Department. This was followed by a short speech by Ben Yanthan, Director, Department of Agriculture, who highlighted the potential schemes and areas that could be explored by the Department of Soil & Water Conservation. A power point presentation on National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture and MIS was presented by K. Khekiho Shohe, Additional Director, Soil & Water Conservation.
The APC, Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS expressed his gratitude in getting an opportunity to serve the farming community of the state. He shared his vision to lead the people from the urban pockets back to their roots, where every individual could be self-sufficient and ultimately food security will be achieved. In this regard, he stressed that all the Agri & allied Departments must come together in unison and work towards a Nagaland based integrated farming system as an alternative to Jhum cultivation or unsustainable farming. In his speech, he also laid emphasis on the importance of Soil Health Card to be provided to all the farmers, based on which land use and cropping plan should be formulated.
The programme was chaired by Wondangbeni Kikon, SDO (SC) and vote of thanks was proposed by S.K. Hekshe, Joint Director.
