A Three-day training on PRA Map Exercise for Selection of Treatment Areas and Refresher Training on WebGIS Portal and Mobile Application for Monitoring and Collection of Field Data under Nagaland Forest Management Project, Nagaland Forest Management Project was organized at CKS Hall, Tuensang. The training is assisted by JICA (Japan International Corporation Agency) headed by the Chief Project Director cum CEO Dharmendra Prakash IFS (PCCF and HoFF) is a forestry intervention and biodiversity conservation project. The project aims to focuses on different project works for livelihood Improvement and Forest Community Development.  

The WebGIS portal and Mobile application, are developed under the supervision of the Vedpal Singh IFS - Project Director (M&E and IM) for concurrent monitoring and evaluation. This training is conceived and organised by SamomKhelen Singh (DFO- Tuensang and DPD- M&E &GIS) heading GIS and MIS cell at PMU.

DFO Tuensang,SamomKhelen Singh presented his views on the relevance of PRA Map Exercise and GIS and Remote Sensing on the opening day of the training, organized from 1st to 3rd September 2021 with the topic of “PRA Map Exercise for Selection of Treatment Areas and Refresher Training on WebGIS Portal and Mobile Application for Monitoring and Collection of Field Data under Nagaland Forest Management Project”. He also motivated the ground staff and participants to understand and use the applications.

The training was organized to improve the understanding of ground-level staff for collaborating the Villagers in decision making by organising PRA Map Exercise and collecting the forest-related data with the help of a Mobile App. It also helped the key stakeholders on different monitoring and evaluation-related problems with the use of the WebGIS Portal. 

Three experts including AnuragVerma, GIS Expert PMC NFMP, LimasanenLongkumer, and AnamoaImsong GIS team members PMU NFMP presented various modules of these applications and described their uses in the training. A field visit to Kuthur Village was also organized on 2nd September in this regard for the collection of data for plantation under different modules, JFM and SHG activities, and institutional strengthening with the help of a Mobile App. The experts along with DFO, SamomKhelen Singh broadly discussed the different issues related to PRA Map Exercise and different modules of the WebGIS portal and Mobile application. The chairman, vice-chairman, and secretary of the Joint Forest Management Council were also present during these discussions.

All the participants appreciated the quality of the training and the professional inputs on different issues received by them with enthusiasm. The PMC Expert highly appreciated the different works performed under the project in Tuensang Division.
