In view of the State Level Catapult Competition, the Department of Tribal Affairs held a press conference on 11th November, 2021 at conference hall, Directorate of Tribal Affairs, Kohima. The State Level Catapult Competition 2021 is being organized by the Department of Tribal Affairs, GoN, Nagaland Tribal Research Institute and sponsored by Ministry of Tribal Affairs, GoI.
Nodal Officer TRI, K. Ongligaku, briefing the media said that in commemoration of "Azad Ka Amrit Mahotsav" and as part of the celebration of the "iconic week of Bhagwan Birsa Munda Birth Anniversary", who was an Indian Tribal freedom fighter from the state of Jharkhand, several events will be held from 15th-22nd November 2021 across the country. The Department of Tribal Affairs too shall be organizing a State Level Catapult Target Hitting Competition at Heritage village, Kisama, on 15th November, 2021 at 12:00 noon.
He informed that, the participants for the event will be from different Naga tribes of Nagaland, with maximum of 30 participants. The registration of participants will be done on the spot from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM on 15th November, 2021. The participants are to wear their traditional attires for the event and carry their own traditional bags. The target distances will be 100 metres and the top three winners will be given cash award and certificate. The event will be inaugurated by Addl. Secretary, Nchumbemo Lotha, he added.
Keeping in mind the objective of the Government, the Department decided to select an indigenous game which is lost and forgotten and revive it, for which Catapult had been particularly selected for the week event. The Department of Tribal Affairs urged the tribal youths to participate and witness the event.
