The Wokha Town Council marked the closing ceremony and felicitation of sanitation workers as part of the Swachhta Pakhwada (Garbage Free India) initiative. The event took place at the DC's conference hall in Wokha on October 2, 2023, and was attended by various dignitaries.

The program was honored by the presence of Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, the MLA representing the 38th Assembly Constituency, who served as the chief guest. In his address, the chief guest expressed heartfelt appreciation for the dedicated efforts of the sanitation workers in maintaining the cleanliness of Wokha town.

MLA Humtsoe emphasized the vision of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, to keep our towns, country, and surroundings clean. He urged the sanitation workers to take pride in their work and underscored the critical role they play in nation-building. He also highlighted the health risks associated with unclean and unhygienic environments, such as the spread of diseases like dengue and other air and waterborne illnesses.

Further, he urged the administration to maintain close coordination with Wokha village and Longsa Village, emphasizing their importance as essential components of the district administration. He called upon both villages to extend their support and services to the district administration for the successful implementation of various projects and schemes for the district's benefit.

During the event, Civil SDO Wokha, Tsidi, provided an overview of the Swachhta Pakhwada initiatives, which included the inauguration of the program on September 15th, a social work and awareness program involving NGOs and town council members on September 18th, a health camp for sanitary workers on September 21st, a street play to raise awareness about cleanliness on September 25th, and the circulation of an awareness video by MLA Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe on October 1st.

A total of twenty-six (26) sanitary workers were felicitated during the ceremony, with Arhoni Khuvung receiving recognition as the best-performing staff.
