World Optometry Day, organised by Nagaland Optometry Association, was celebrated on 23rd March 2021 at the Directorate of School Education with the theme "Training of School Teachers on Vision checking". The celebration of World Optometry Day is held for the first time in Nagaland, which was attended by Principal Director School Education Nagaland Shanavas C and a host of teachers from different schools.

            The Principal Director expressed his appreciation to Nagaland Optometric Association for their contribution and encouraged them to arrange various activities, events and gatherings to raise awareness about the optometrists and to lend a helping hand to people with eye problems and eye care. He informed that the vision needs to capture the aims of school plan action for the students and guide and inform for preparation of a school development plan for those students having problem with vision which is an important factor and to focus for planning to equipped with knowledge and skills which can communicate their findings to parents to ensure that there is follow-through with recommendations. He added that students with accommodation and convergence problems may need structured vision training of the eyes in order to improve their reading skills. He asked the teachers to share their experiences on the importance of the Day celebration once they go back to their respective school and added that the department will plan some pilot project in the near future.                           

             Hitoli Khehoto Jimo in her keynote address said that optometrist are the primary health care practitioner of the eye and vision system who provide comprehensive vision care like, Refraction, Dispensing, Detection, Diagnosis, Management of the diseases and rehabilitation on the conditions of the vision. A PowerPoint presentation was presented by convener NOA, Porenthung Odyuo on correcting refractive error, and also the impact of uncorrected myopia, so that it serve as guidance for the school's authorities that the visual task demand of the people who face problems.
