In view of the incessant rainfall experience across Tuensang district, Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa has advised all citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as cases of incidents of flooding, landslides, riverbank erosion and rise in the water level of rivers and streams have already been reported from different parts of the district.

Meteorological inputs indicate intensity of rainfall may continue in the coming days, posing potential threat of further flooding, landslides and erosion along riverbank.

The District Administration has urged all citizens to exercise utmost caution and strictly adhere to the following safety measures.

1)      Avoid unnecessary travel, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall, do not attempt to cross flooded roads, bridge, culvert or fast flowing streams.

2)      Exercise ultimate caution while travelling through hilly roads, as there is a possibility of landslides, falling rocks, uprooted trees and slippery road conditions.

3)      Residents living in landslides prone or low-lying areas are advised to remain alert and if necessary, move to safer location without delay.

4)      Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children, elderly person and person with disability.

5)      The public is further advice not to circulate or rely upon unverified information, citizens are requested to follow only official advisories issue by the District Administration and other Competent authorities.

6)      Immediately report incidents such as landslides, road blockage, house damage, flooding or person in distress to the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) Tuensang at 9612592810 or inform the nearest Administration Office or Police station/ Outpost.

          Further the District Administration has sought the cooperation of all citizens in adhering to the advisory during the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
