Department of Horticulture Government of Nagaland, held a special Horticultural drive and held consultative meeting with department official on 12th May 2020 at DCs conference hall, Wokha on the theme ‘Grow More-Produce More-Earn More’.
Commissioner & Secretary Horticulture & Women Resource Development, Anenla T. Sato, IAS while speaking during the meeting, said in the wake of COVID-19 there are presently 135 million facing hunger globally due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and is likely to add 130 million people who are going to face hunger by the end of 2020, where she added that that the State Government is viewing seriously and came out with guidelines to encourage farming community with a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is designed for farmers engaged in cultivation of vegetables, spices, fruits, flowers and plantation crops to reduce the risk of spreading the virus while protecting the farming operation in various horticultural fields.
Sato further appealed to the department officials and other allied departments to help in collecting information and database of fruits, vegetables and spices growers so that department can come up with comprehensive strategy and marketing plans and activities so that farming community will be benefited.
Director, Horticulture, Dr. R. Elithung Lotha who also spoke during the meeting said, everything has come to a standstill because of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and if this lockdown continues not only the farmers but the citizens will be adversely effected to a great extent and with the view to reach out to the farming community the department has come out with certain guidelines to encourage the farmers to carry on with their regular farming activities for self-sufficiency’s and economic development. He also added we are blessed with natural resources and land and urged farming communities to make use of the resources to make our state sufficient and economic benefits.
Commissioner & Secretary Horticulture & Women Resource Development was accompanied by Jt. Director Horti, N. Jerry Patton, Dy. Director Dr. Moa Walling, Dy. Director Mesetuo Pienyu and HEA Thungchobeni Kikon.
