Governor of Assam and Nagaland, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi attended a meeting and discussed with the civil society organizations, church leaders, pandits, maulana, chamber of commerce and political parties on February 9th 2022. The programme was presided over by DC Kiphire, Wati Aier, NCS.
Governor during the meeting said that wherever he went, priority was given to civil organizations, cultural & tribal organisations, students and political parties representatives. He appreciated the Naga tribal organisations for being aware of their 'rights' and concerned about any 'deficiencies'. Citing an example of other states, where civil societies play a dominant role in development, he encouraged the civil organisations in the district to play a dominant role too. "Civil Societies can put a check upon the main activities of the execution of the works at any level "and added, "accomplishment cannot arrive unless a dominant role is played by civil societies".
During the interaction hour, General Secretary of United Sangtam Likhum Pumchi (USLP) stated that Kiphire was declared an 'Aspirational District' as per the vision of Prime Minister, Modi in the year 2018 with the vision for development. However, not much progress has been seen, he requested the Governor to intervene and ensure that various funds under the aspirational programme which were meant for Kiphire come to Kiphire District. He also advocated for opening a Nursing institute at Kiphire Hq. to facilitate young aspirants who were facing hardship travelling to Kohima and Dimapur. He highlighted on the roads and transportation problems. The General Secretary also appraised about the opening of the Science and Commerce stream at the GHSS at Kiphire.
Tsalichem from the Chamber of Commerce appraised the Governor for electing one representative (Representative of Chamber of Commerce) as a nominee to the Town Council Kiphire. He said that the office has been functioning for 7 years with 316 numbers of officially registered shops under Chamber of Commerce Kiphire Town and that they have been consistently extending charitable works to the society in the district.
Kiphire Tuengsang Sumi Students’ Union requested the Governor for improving school infrastructures and sports infrastructures in the District and also appraised for improvement in road connectivity.
The Governor said the representations submitted to him by the civil societies would be thoroughly read and taken up for consideration, and few appraisals that require central approval would be forwarded for necessary action.
Earlier, while presiding over the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Kiphire, Wati Aier thanked the Governor for touring Kiphire District.
