Deputy Commissioner Mon, Thavaseelan K, IAS, in an order has notified that no Village/Ward Authorities, Individuals or Groups are allowed to issue "Shoot-at-Sight" Order for pets especially dogs. Such an act is a punishable offence under Section 3 & 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

Any Village/ Ward Authority or any Individual/ Group acting in contravention of this Order shall be liable for legal proceedings under Section 428 & 429 of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

In addition, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and activation of Quarantine Centres in different parts of the District, all pet owners have been directed to prevent their pets from straying outside respective home premise at all times. Action shall be initiated under relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 against the owner of pets that are found loitering in Towns/Villages.
